(STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED with NEW INFORMATION) El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Officials say that the wreck involving a Go-Kart and a pickup truck only involved the 8-year-old driving the kart.
The wreck occurred on the portion of North Ascencion Street that leads to Montana Vista, not in Agua Dulce as originally reported.
An 8-year-old child was rushed to a Lubbock-area burn center after a fiery Sunday afternoon wreck, just north of Horizon City.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO), deputies responded to the 700 block of North Ascension Street, in reference to a motor vehicle accident on Sunday, June 4th.
Witnesses tell EPCSO that a go-kart was crossing over North Ascension from a dirt road; as the go-kart crossed the roadway, a pickup truck traveling southbound struck the go-kart.
EPCSO Deputies say that, at the time of the accident, the go-kart was occupied by an eight-year-old. Earlier reports had an adult along with the child on the kart.
As a result of the accident, the child was transported to University Medical Center with 2nd and 3rd-degree burns and a broken pelvis. The child is listed in critical condition and is being transferred to Lubbock, Texas for further treatment.
Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators were requested at the scene, and no other information is available at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.
