Ensor Student Awarded Gift from Major Music Company

A Col. John O. Ensor Middle School student won a gift card and a 10 percent discount certificate from Cascio Interstate Music after she was chosen in a drawing of Team SISD’s middle school band and orchestra students.

Camila Brunson, a seventh-grader who plays the alto saxophone, was happy to receive the winnings from the music company. She is going to use them to purchase reeds and other things needed for her instrument.

“I was so surprised and thankful,” said Brunson, who was presented the gift in band class. “This is going to help me become a better player.”

Cascio Interstate sent Socorro Independent School District the gifts to congratulate the district’s Fine Arts Department for winning the National Association of Music Merchants’ 2017 Best Communities for Music Education Award for its exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

“They sent a really nice letter to Dr. (José) Espinoza and a gift card in recognition of the award,” said Janet Lynch, the district’s instrumental music specialist.

Lynch said the recognition from the respected music organization is well deserved. SISD fine arts teachers are providing high quality music education and SISD students are excelling in band, orchestra, and all areas of the fine arts.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for a young student to be able to purchase necessary materials for her band class,” Lynch said. “We are grateful and thankful to Cascio Interstate Music for this gift.”
