Who says that you can’t grow food in a desert? Certainly not husband and wife team Raul Rodriguez, Jr and Lisa Glidden.
As the High Desert’s organic – and quite possibly only – farmers, Raul and Lisa have been growing vegetables and herbs for the Downtown Farmer’s and Artist’s Market since 2011.
Now they’ve opened the doors to their farm – Healthy Harvest Farm – every Friday so that their fellow Horizonites can now get the pick of the fresh produce, right from the growers themselves.
According to Lisa, the pickings are plentiful, and they invite all their High Desert neighbors out to their farm. This year’s crop includes zucchini, cucumbers, spaghetti squash, tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, onions, okra, cantaloupe, and watermelon.
To find out what’s available each week, hungry shoppers can call 915-852-2173. Then residents can shop for their fresh and local produce on Friday mornings, from 8am- 2pm, at the farm located at 16008 North Horizon Boulevard, just about 2.2 miles past Ascension.
