Graduating seniors in the Socorro Independent School District are invited to enter the SISD Best in Education Prize Scholarship Essay Contest.
The contest celebrates the academic excellence in Team SISD, which was showcased nationwide when SISD Superintendent José Espinoza won the 2017 Escalante-Gradillas Best in Education Prize in October 2017. Dr. Espinoza and Team SISD earned the national recognition for doing more with less, overcoming obstacles, boosting student achievement levels, and raising the standard of excellence for SISD schools and the district overall.
Dr. Espinoza is sharing his Best in Education award winnings with students in the form of scholarships for graduating seniors who win the essay contest. Contest participants must write an essay to answer the prompt: How have you or your family done more with less?
Five students who win the SISD Best in Education Prize Scholarship Essay Contest will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship prize to use toward tuition for the college/university they will attend in the fall of 2018.
The contest is open to 2018 graduating seniors in all high schools in the Socorro Independent School District. The student-written essays may be submitted by the student or the student’s teacher, counselor, parent or other representative. Teachers and counselors may submit unlimited entries, but only one essay per student.
A print copy of the essay must be hand delivered to the Public Relations Department at the SISD District Service Center, 12440 Rojas Dr. Essays will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until the deadline at 4:30 p.m. May 1, 2018.
Students must submit a completed entry form with their essay. Essays will not be accepted without a completed entry form. Essays will not be accepted after the deadline of 4:30 p.m. May 1, 2018.
