Children Receive Free Meals Through SISD Summer Food Program

The Socorro Independent School District’s Child Nutrition Services Department will offer free meals to all children ages 18 and under from June 4 through June 29. The Summer Food Program provides nutritious meals at no cost to all children at participating school sites.

To participate, just show up. There are no fees, proof of income or registration required. Lunch will be available at participating campuses from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Free breakfast also will be offered from 7:30 to 8 a.m. only at participating campuses. For the summer menu, please visit the district website or call 937-0450.

    • Previous programs had applicants and a vetting process, if the household did not meet the income requirements, the children would pay for the meals during school time. With the program, the USDA absorbs the cost, and pays the school back; hence the use of ‘free’ meaning no cost to parents.
