Community members are invited to give their input this week, as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) develops a Corridor Master Plan for approximately 9.4 miles of Horizon Boulevard (FM 1281) between Alameda Avenue (SH 20) in Socorro and Ascension Street in Horizon City.

The corridor, which links the communities of Horizon City, Sparks, and Socorro, is expected to experience increased growth. Many new developments are currently in planning or construction phases along the corridor.

These developments will likely add traffic to an area which already includes parks, schools, neighborhoods, and various businesses.

A Corridor Master Plan will assist transportation planners in preparing for growth and will help identify current and future transportation needs along Horizon Boulevard.

The plan will define existing transportation challenges and opportunities; and evaluate possible solutions. It will also consider the community’s vision and recommendations to improve safety and mobility, and will consider drainage issues in the area.

A second round of public meetings will be scheduled for later this year and the study is estimated for completion in spring 2019.

These meetings are the first in a series before final recommendations are made. Identical study information will be presented at each gathering. These meetings are in an open house format with maps, plan details and animations, and will be staffed by TxDOT and consultants ready to answer questions in English and Spanish.

Community members interested in learning more about the plans, but are not able to attend this last round of public meetings can view details and provide feedback online by visiting , and search via keyword “Horizon Boulevard – FM 1281”.
