El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Releases Mug Shot of Suspect in Pursuit, Shooting and Arrrest

One man is behind bars after a late-night chase turned into an alleged assault against Horizon City Police Department officers.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, February 17th at approximately 11:30 pm the Horizon City Police Department requested the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit to respond to an Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant involving two Horizon City Police Officers.

The Major Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Unit and the Texas Rangers responded to the 14000 block of Jeweled Desert,where Sheriff’s Office Investigators were advised that the Horizon Police Department had attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding (80 mph in a 35 mph zone).

According to HCPD officials, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.  After brief chase, Horizon officers were able to contain the vehicle in a cul de sac located at Roslyn and Jeweled Desert Horizon City.

EPCSO officials added, “As officers approached the vehicle the suspect accelerated toward the officers striking one of them in the leg and crashed into an HCPD Patrol Unit.  The Officers fired their weapons at the vehicle as it fled from the scene and the pursuit continued.”

There were no injuries as a result of the incident or officers’ gun fire.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 25-year-old Sergio Gonzalez.  Gonzalez was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency, and no other information is available at this time.
