Man Pleads Guilty, Will Serve 30 Years in Prison for 2017 Murder of Erick Aragon

The first of three men charged in the November 2017 deadly shooting of a Horizon teen plead guilty and was sentence to prison last month.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on April 30, 2018, Miguel Angel Ontiveros plead guilty to his role in the November 2017 Capital Murder of Erick Aragon in Horizon City, Texas. Ontiveros was sentenced to 30 years.

Just after 11 p.m on November 4, 2017, the Horizon City Police Department was dispatched to the McDonald`s parking lot at 13990 Horizon Boulevard, in reference to a subject down.

Upon arrival, Horizon City Police officers made contact with the unconscious male.  The victim, 22-year-old Erik Aragon of Horizon City,  was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound.

On November 5, 2017, Erik Aragon died as a result of his injuries.  On November 6, 2017, the El Paso County Sheriff`s Office adopted the case from the Horizon City Police Department.

Through the course of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit identified 21-year-old Shawn Ezal Ramirez, 22-year-old Miguel Angel Ontiveros, and 23-year-old Marcos Damian Porras as those responsible for causing Aragon’s death.

Court cases are still pending for Ramirez and Porras.
