UPDATE: First Escaped Sex Offender of the Year Turns Self In at Montana Vista EPCSO Station

UPDATE –  Wednesday, January 9, 2019 –  James Roy Artrip surrendered himself to Sheriff’s Office deputies at the East Montana Patrol Station. Artrip was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.


With the new year, an old problem has returned, as the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the community in locating James Roy Artrip, a sex offender who left the El Paso Transitional Living Center earlier this week.

According to officials, on Monday, January 7, 2019, Artrip left the facility located at 1650 Horizon Boulevard, just across from the Sparks Neighborhood south of Horizon City, and his whereabouts are now unknown.

EPCSO officials say he is now wanted on a Parole Violation and an additional charge of Sex Offenders Duty to Register is forthcoming.

Sheriff’s Officials add that Artrip may possibly be driving a Green 1996 Jeep Cherokee with Texas license plates. No other information is available at this time.

His sex offense is for Criminal Solicitation of a Child, the victim being a 14-year-old female and is currently on parole for said offense.
