As the Socorro Independent School District continues offering delicious and nutritious breakfasts and lunches for all students to support their academic success, the application for those meals just got easier to fill out.
“Team SISD is committed to providing great tasting, healthy meals for students so that they are properly nourished and prepared to focus on academic success in the classroom,” said SISD Director of Child Nutrition Services Shelley Chenausky. “We continuously work to ensure students’ meals are of the highest quality, meeting all nutritional requirements, and provided with the best customer service.”
The SISD Child Nutrition Services department ensures all meals are balanced, meet federal and state standards, and options are provided to offer students the meals they enjoy with the nutrition they need to excel in the classroom.
For the 2017-2018 school year, free breakfast for all students will continue to be offered. As part of the Breakfast in the Classroom program, all elementary and middle school students, regardless of income eligibility, will receive breakfast free of charge every day beginning on July 31, 2017. In addition, free breakfast for all high school students in the district will continue to be offered through the School Breakfast Program.
Lunch prices for the 2017-18 school year for grades Pre-K through fifth (PK-5) will be $2.10 and $2.45 for grades sixth through 12th (6-12). Students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. The reduced price for lunch is 40 cents.
The online meal application for free and reduced lunch will be available beginning July 1.
All students at Campestre, Rojas, Escontrias, Mission Ridge and KEYS elementary schools, Desert Wind School and Socorro Middle School will receive all meals for free through the Community Eligibility Provision. Students at these schools do not need to fill out the meal application for free and reduced lunch.
SISD provides free and reduced-price meals for children who qualify under the attached current income eligibility guidelines (www.squaremeals.org).
Each SISD school and the District Education Center has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by anyone on request.
Starting on July 31, 2017 all Socorro ISD schools will begin distributing letters to the households of the children in the district about eligibility benefits and any actions households need to take to apply for these benefits.
Applications also are available at the Child Nutrition Services Office, 12300 Eastlake Drive.
