This Year’s Horizon Christmas Tree Lighting, Parade Schedule Released

Dates for the mega-popular Horizon Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade are now set, and community members are invited to participate in the annual festivities.

This year’s theme is “Horizon City at 30” and float and paticipant rules are available at the link below.

The Christmas Tree Lighting will be Friday, November 30, 2018. Float judging will begin at 5 pm and the tree lighting will be at 7 pm at Corky Corcoran Park (see map below)

The Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 1 ,2018, starting at 10 AM. Staging will begin at 8am

Residents are again asked to bring non-perishable food items (stuffing, gravy mix, cranberry, rice, beans, vegetables, mashed potatoes) to either the mandatory parade meeting or the Christmas tree lighting.

Turkey baskets for the less fortunate will be put together and distributed.  Last year, officials were able to distribute 100 turkey baskets to our neighbors in need.

This year’s parade fees are as follows: 

$35 for nonprofit organizations
$40 for car and motorcycle clubs; car and motorcycle clubs are considered 10 vehicles. Each additional vehicle is $10.00
$60 for for-profit organizations
$75 for registering after November 18th
$200 for registering on December 1st
Car clubs are considered 10 cars; each additional car is $5

The Horizon City Parade will begin on Darrington Rd at the Ryderwood intersection. The parade will move southward on Darrington Rd and turn left onto Horizon Blvd. The parade will move eastward on Horizon Blvd, turn right onto Duanesburg and turn left onto McMahon Ave. The parade will end at the Club Amistad parking lot
