On a beautiful Saturday morning, hundreds of the Holy Spirit faithful turned out, walked a few miles and celebrated the First Mass on the location of what will be the parish’s new site.
Led by Matachines, Father Jose Morales and Bishop Mark Seitz, the procession arrived to the applause of those gathered around the temporary altar. The new location, at 14600 Horizon Boulevard, is just across the street from Horizon High School.
After starting out in the garage of a converted home along the 1400 block of McMahon in 1973, the church moved across the street to a small chapel to start the 1980’s. The chapel served the High Desert well, and as Horizon grew, so did the crowds at the church.
The growth of the parish meant expansion in the 2000’s and the move from a mission to a parish in 2013.
According to Father Morales, the new home for the faithful will be done in a blink of an eye, and welcomed all to their new home. The crowd erupted in cheers, and then the mass began.
