Under a cloudless, quickly warming Thursday morning, officials with the Horizon City Fire Department, as well as representatives from the Emergency Services District (#1) and other dignitaries broke ground for the High Desert’s newest fire station.
Located at the corner of Mission Ridge Drive and Paseo del Este Boulevard, the new station is being built to service the scores of new homes and subdivisions built over the last few years.
Most of the homes in the coverage area are outside of the Horizon City limits, and the previous distance for crews to get to emergencies was great, however the new station will improve that.
Fire Chief Kris Menendez talked about the coming improvements – not just to response time – but to the homeowner’s and business’ insurance rates.
With construction underway, Menendez expects the station to open in January of 2020.
