After nearly two months and countless hours of searching code, scrolling through lines, waiting on hold for the help desk and many deleted files, the High Desert’s news source is back online!
The initial attack took place Sunday, March 12th and struck not only our little website, but some 500,000 across the world. Hackers from Central Europe used a weakness – an exploit – in the program we use to put stories together, to program our site (and the 499,999) others to attack other servers.
We thought we had the bug under control, and re-launched in early April, only to fall victim to the same bug a few days later.
The good news is that we’re back on line, the bad news is – for now the archive of all our stories and pictures from the last 12 years is unavailable. But we’re working to fix that.
Our main goal was to get the site live once again and resume bringing you all the news, events and stories from our little slice of the desert, and we’ve done that.
A special thanks to all of you who continued to visit our facebook page during the last few weeks, and to all the new users who found us and liked us.
Also a very special thank you to all our sponsors who stuck with us through the outage, they’re listed below and each of them deserve your business, as they are all local and they support not only this website, but our community as well. Swing by and say thank you, if you have a chance – either in person, or via the links provided.
Finally, this is a busy time for our High Desert community; the HCYA baseball season is underway and Movies in the Park will be staring June 3rd, perfect timing for all us Horizonites to head out and enjoy our great community.
As always, if you have a story idea, comment or anything else, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call at 915-315-1478.
Again, thanks for your patience and thanks for making HorizonCity.com your 1st stop for news about our community for the last 13 years.
